Ms. Eastham has over 25 years experience in financial and operations management,
primarily in life sciences companies. She currently serves as Executive Vice President
and Chief Operating Officer, and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Burnham
Institute for Medical Research, a non-profit corporation, engaged in basic biomedical
research and the home to three research centers – a Cancer Center, the Del E. Webb
Center for Neuroscience and Aging and a Center for research on Infectious and
Inflammatory Diseases. From April 1999 to May 2004, Ms. Eastham served as Senior
Vice President, Finance, Chief Financial Officer, and Secretary of Diversa Corporation,
where she led the company’s IPO, raising over $200 MM. She previously held similar
positions with CombiChem, Inc., a computational chemistry company, and Cytel
Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company. Ms. Eastham also held several positions,
including Vice President, Finance, at Boehringer Mannheim Diagnostics, from 1976 to
1988.
Ms. Eastham serves as a director for several biotechnology companies, including Amylin
Pharmaceuticals, Inc., SGX Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and Tercica, Inc., for which she also
chairs the audit committees and Illumina, Inc. where she also chairs the compensation
committee. She previously served as a director of Molecular Probes, Inc. and Salmedix,
Inc., privately-held biotechnology companies, until the sale of the companies to
Invitrogen, Inc. and Cephalon, Inc., respectively. Ms. Eastham also serves on the
Corporate Directors Forum Board, which focuses on promoting best practices in corporate
governance. Ms. Eastham received a B.S. and an M.B.A. from Indiana University and is
a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Director.
