John Moores, chairman, San Diego Padres, honored as Director of the Year for Corporate Citizenship. Moores, chairman of the San Diego Padres since 1994, has been a major driving force in the development of Petco Park and the revitalization of San Diego’s East Village. He has personally been one of the most prolific philanthropists in the world, donating $21 million to the University of California, San Diego to establish the John and Rebecca Moores Cancer Center and working to establish the Padres Foundation, which helps fund programs in education, recreation, health and other youth-oriented philanthropy.
In January 2005, Moores was elected to a four-year term as a member of Major League Baseball’s Executive Council. He currently serves on the board of directors for Major League Baseball Advanced Media and is chairman of the board of trustees for the Carter Center, an international humanitarian organization.
