Karla J. Hertzog, board member, YMCA of San Diego County, honored as Director of the Year for a not-for-profit board.  Hertzog has served on the YMCA board of directors since 1990, including a three-year term as the organization’s first chairwoman.  One fellow YMCA of San Diego County board member says that in the boardroom, “she brings a deep sense of sensitivity and mission, coupled with a solid business sense and leadership.” 

Hertzog is currently owner and CEO of Innovative Employee Solutions Inc., which specializes in payrolling and outsourcing HR administrative services for various industries and has worked diligently as part of the staffing industry for more than 30 years, beginning her career with TOPS Staffing Services, advancing to become president and ultimately sole owner in 1991 before selling the assets of TOPS Staffing Services – excluding the Payrolling Division – to a veteran company in the industry.

Hertzog was a founding member of the San Diego Business Roundtable for Education. She was also one of the first winners of the San Diego Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business awards and has also received the San Diego Science Alliance Partnership Award, San Diego Chamber of Commerce’s Entrepreneurial Achievement Award and the Greater San Diego Industry Education Council’s Salute to Business and Education commendation.  She currently serves on the board of directors of San Diego National Bank and on the board of Angels Family Foster Care, a foster program for babies.
