Neal E. Schmale, chairman of the board, WD-40 Company, honored as Director of the Year for Corporate Governance.  Schmale was elected to the WD-40 Company board of directors in 2001, has served as chairman of the board since 2004 and is a member of its audit and governance committees.  He has been a leader in maintaining the company’s ethical standards and demonstrated a steady commitment to enhancing long-term stockholder value at the company by continuously monitoring the effectiveness of its policies and decision-making.  Schmale is president and chief operating officer for Sempra Energy, a Fortune 500 energy company, and is a member of its board of directors.  He also serves on the board of directors for Murphy Oil Corp.

At Sempra, Schmale is responsible for the overall operational management of the Sempra Energy companies.  He was formerly executive vice president and chief financial officer for the company.  Prior, Schmale served as chief financial officer and as a member of the board of directors of Unocal Corporation, and previously served as Unocal’s senior vice president and president of its petroleum products and chemical division.  Throughout his 29-year career at Unocal, Schmale held a variety of positions in the operations, legal and finance functions.
