Robert P. Akins, chairman and CEO, Cymer Inc., honored as Director of the Year for Enhancement of Economic Value.  Akins, who co-founded Cymer Inc. in 1986, has served as the company’s chairman and CEO since its inception.  Working on everything from designing and building lasers to efficiently managing the business, Akins has demonstrated a unique ability to improve the value of the company. Under his direction, the company has grown into a nearly $1 billion enterprise.

Akins also serves on the board of directors of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Foundation, KLA-Tencor Corp., Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) and SEMI North America, and is a member of the council of advisors to the Irwin and Joan Jacobs School of Engineering at UCSD.  Akins received the SEMI North America Award for contributions to the field of DUV lithography and was recently honored with the 2007 William W. Otterson Award, given to the San Diego Company whose products have demonstrated the most significant positive impact on society.
