John Schaefer was elected to the Websense board in 2001, where he serves as the chair of the corporate governance committee. As corporate governance chair he increased his direct interaction with the company’s shareholders, spearheading a number of corporate governance initiatives that ultimately led to modifications of Websense’s certificate of incorporation and bylaws. Schaefer also serves as lead director. In this capacity he has continued to pursue enhanced governance of the company, advocating for increased advanced planning for Board-level issues and formalized Board education programs. In addition, Schaefer is a director at Santa Clara-based Intevac, Inc.
